The Cage of Sand

The Cage of Sand

Edward Rankus (00:10:40) English

Synopsis

Trailer

If asked to say what this work is about in one word, the answer—which is woven into the soundtrack—would be a Joycean one: it’s a “collideorscape.”

In 2016 I was asked to make an under-3-minute video based on just the title of a J. G. Ballard story, "The Cage of Sand" for the electronic music festival Moogfest. This present work is a greatly-expanded version of that short piece. The imagery is a return to material I dealt with as a young man in the video "Naked Doom" (1983). I have recycled imagery such as cages, a toy robot, and brain convolutions; newer motifs include a ballet dancer, corsets, and alchemical vessels containing birds. These elements are arranged and rearranged into different patterns. For the audio I have constructed an electronic musique concrète soundtrack, since this piece had its birth at that electronic music festival (where it was silent, ironically).

The Messenger * Hermes Remembers

The Messenger * Hermes Remembers

Algis Kemezys (00:25:00) English

Synopsis

Trailer

Hermes, the most human-like of all the Olympian gods, is now old. On this day he remembers himself as a younger transgendered man, irrepressible but needy of his father Zeus and his aunt Aphrodite. He roams the world, on a quest for love and self-validation. He misbehaves it's true, but this is not a cautionary tale, he is after all a god and can do as he pleases. Remembering Hermes is also a 4th dimensional being so he views time via eternal recurrence.
You see, TIME is circular and in layers for a 4th dimensional being. Memories are also seen both clear or hazy depending on their importance.

In the beginning it was young Hermes quest to find a way to fully love himself inside the inter-related domains of earth, sky, fire and water, in order to be successful and be a fully realized Messenger of the Gods.

Filmed in many wondrous locations around the globe since 1998, this story commingles the divine with the mundane across the vast spectrum of the imagination utilizing the five elements water, air, earth and fire & music; to arrive at it's quintessence.

NOTE : This movie is not controversial because it pertains to Mythological History.

TRATAK

TRATAK 1 - ANTARS, the Ice Around the Time

Davide Carlini (00:08:00) Italian

Synopsis

Trailer

TRATAK in the east and in parapsychology is known as an ancient technology for activation of sensory not commonly used seand atrophied in the majority of beings embodied in this space-time.

The first chapter of this experimental mid-footage introduces Edam's experience; a man like everyone who is between the sky and the abyss, between doubt and faith and among the endless "influences of the Dark".

In the search for himself , the truth and the memory of those who are beyond the necessary masks of everyday life, he will wait for many things on the path before coming to light at the exit of the cave of ignorance.

A minimal narration leads the viewer to a detachment from rational reality and to bring the threshold of the unexplainable and not accessible to the linear mind and imprisoned by the positivist logic of the last centuries.

This is the first episode of TRATAK, independent film and without budget, maybe others will follow...

TRATAK 2 - REVEIL, Heavenly Memories Sometimes Veiled

TRATAK 2 - REVEIL, Heavenly Memories Sometimes Veiled

Davide Carlini (00:14:00) Italian

Synopsis

Trailer

Tratak is an experimental project of self-produced cinema, born from an idea of non-narrative research of the inner experience, where the sense of history (as for other things ..) is more given by the interpretation and state of the observer (.. " where is ", and what perspective and horizon can get from that point) than from the will of the author.

The film works on multiple levels of metaphor and narration and is structured in 3 phases (or states ..).

Currently the first and second chapter is published and the third will be released in the coming months.

The construction of the story began in 2015 within a project for students of the courses of the Officine Mattoli film school.

Filmed in less than a week at the beginning of 2016, it has been assembled in over 2 years of post-production, where in the meantime the space of common experience (the World) has begun to take shape in a new and unexpected way towards new paradigms and awakening of ancient awareness released by its agents, within History.

If you want to support the project, share and comment on the channel.

In time, many things will be clearer to everyone and even this strange film.

Shamanic Theatre

Shamanic Theatre

Nicole P. Drakulič Trninić (00:33:54) German, Slovenian

Synopsis

Small wooden house nested under the chestnut tress on top of small hill. Strong light is penetrating in the room. Giving light to the place and to four human beings, two of them woman, two of them man. Interaction between them is strong. Is growing. Reaching its peak. No control. The power is too strong. Fear. The door opens and a person in panic leaves the room. Running headlessly down the hill. That was the first shamanic theatre. An idea, a try, no structure, no control.

Film starts with reconstruction of the shamanic ritual later called Shamanic Theatre which took place near Graz, Styria and was initiated by Dr. Sylvia Marianne Wohlfarter. Shamanism is based on structures, on knowledge and experiences, passed trough centuries from father to son, from mother to daughter and yet it stays subjective, dependent on person and his spirits. Shamanic Theatre is a form of discovering mans own spiritual powers and dimensions but above all efficient healing method.

It is telling the story of people who realized that ordinary reality is just a little fragment in immense web of different realities existing. About people who learned through their shamanic work of spirits, of their powers, which are compared to ours, immense. About people who trust in this spirits and believe that with their help it is possible to heal, to help, to solve problems, be it of personal or greater scale.

In film not only the image is the storyteller, but everything that there is: metaphors, associations, hidden memories, ideas and smells of the future. Sound of the drum, the whistle, moments of silence. Rhythm. And the spaces between where the whole is happening.

The Spirit Callers

The Spirit Callers

If Nickl (00:10:16)

Synopsis

Trailer

"The Spirit Callers“ is a filmic collage on the subject of self-portrayal. A visually stunning archaeology is unleashed, removing the masks of human constructs of the ego, and attempting to lay open our innermost parts.

All is fair in love and war when advancing deeper into the well encapsulated core: burning civic documents, cosmic rituals of self-exposure, fighting with fears and demons, unrestrained ecstasy…

A symbolic suicide, and refuge into the embrace of the Alma Mater. Abundant associative quotes from pop culture as well as art and film history accompany the quick steps – be it Anselm Kiefer’s enraptured human of his work “The starry sky above me and the moral law within me”, sequences from “The Exorcist”, or the steady reminiscences of Alejandro Jodorowky’s surreal imagery, which resonate as a metalevel.

The formal concept is pure unadulterated free style, which is primarily up to capture the moment. A collage-like rhythm of images is being portrayed by amateur actors, who interpret their roles without preparation in the first take. Spontaneity and immediacy lastly answer one purpose:

to break up the determined patterns of behaviour and reception, to clear the way from the “I”/ego to the cosmos, to go from separateness to a notion of oneness. The universe is my lover !

Crowned & Conquering

Crowned & Conquering

Zareh Tjeknavorian (00:12:00)

Synopsis

"Love is the law, love under will. Nor let the fools mistake love; for there are love and love. There is the dove, and there is the serpent." - Liber AL vel Legis (the Book of the Law), I:57

Shot on 16mm film, “Crowned & Conquering” is inspired by the philosophy of the occultist, ceremonial magician, and writer, Aleister Crowley. Through mythical scenes, symbolic imagery, abstract graphics and textures (including collage and painting directly on the film itself), and a monumental psychedelic soundtrack, the work visualizes the alchemical process of chrysopoeia, the transmutation of the spirit from lead into gold: a cinematic allegory of the gnostic path in sight and sound.

The Morgenstern & Boyd Trilogy

The Morgenstern & Boyd Trilogy

Fritz Aigner (02:41:00) Chinese, English, German, Serbian

Synopsis

Trailer

“The Meadow”, a film by so far unsuccessful director Fritz Aigner, causes a surprising stir at the Venice film festival. As a result, a notable producer tasks Aigner to shoot a sequel. The making of the film turns out to be a disaster. As the entire film crew rebels against the director’s growing delusions of grandeur, he finds himself confronted with the antagonists of his own fiction: Morgenstern and Boyd. They suck him into a spiral of sexual obsessions and omnipotent fantasies, at the end of which there can only be the failure of the film or death itself.

“THE MORGENSTERN & BOYD TRILOGY“ is divided into three parts:

Part 1 is Fritz Aigner’s film ”The Meadow“, a baroque gothic drama about the beauty and the decay of life.

Part 2 tells the tragic story of the director during the making of the sequel of “The Meadow“

Part 3 is said sequel entitled “The Carol Singers“, a lavish fairy tale about immaculate conception and immortality.
